Everyday I hear about pain in someone’s life. Yes, everyday! It’s primarily personal pain, resulting mostly from poor life choices. Oddly enough these are young people, discovering that they are responsible for their own pain!!! Others seem to trip over their pain because they simply live their lives on top of past pain. Their pain resides within! They discover it almost by accident when they stop long enough to reflect on their past. Tragically they simply move on to the next day carrying it with them. Often I ask myself this question, Why do so many Christians never deal with the pain in their lives? My answer… They are so busy devising ways to mask their pain with the things of the world that they never experience relief, relief that comes only through faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Could it be that they are not truly born again? Possibly! Mostly, I think it is because as babes in Christ they seek to satisfy their childlike desires with the temporary sweets of this world. So back to the pain. It remains… it never goes away! The Apostle John gives us these insightful words:
1 John 2:15-17 (KJV)
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
