Recently I received a question about church attendance and what the Bible says about it. After thinking it through I gave my answer. As most of you know I was not raised in church. Actually I started going to church regularly after becoming a Christian. So at the age of 16 I started taking church attendance seriously. As I recall no one sat me down and said,” Now that you are a Christian you need to go to church.” Something much more significant happened! I had a compelling desire to go to church. Instinctively, my heart gravitated to the things of God. My spirit craved the atmosphere and company of my church friends and family. I can say it this way. I love to attend church; I love to be with God’s people. I see other believers as my spiritual family. I need my spiritual siblings! Regular church attendance adds energy to my relationship with Jesus. I see the church as the living body of Christ in this world that is hostile to God. The Scriptures tell us that “Jesus loved the church and gave Himself for it.” When I say I love the church I mean that I love the people that make up the church. The church is not a building. The church is people… that church is my family! When you say, “I love Jesus,” you are saying “I love His church… His people, the family of God.”
Hebrews 10:23-25 encourages God’s people, Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
This Sunday we will have The Lord’s Supper during our morning worship hour at 11:00 AM. Your participation is essential since Jesus gave us His heart on the matter. Jesus said, “… This do in remembrance of Me.” Maybe you have a Christian friend that has not been to church in a while. Invite them to join you and ask the Lord to tender their hearts for Jesus’ sake! You will be glad you invited them and they will appreciate the fact that you cared about their spiritual condition.
Thank you for your love and care! Cheryl and I deeply appreciate everything you do for us. I am so thankful that the Lord brought us together for this time and for our city of Greenville.
Psalm 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.
PRAY!
